Undergraduate : B.Sc.
Shriram Mahila Vidnyan Mahavidyalaya, Paniv, was established in 2014 on a non-grant basis under the aegis of Shriram Shikshan Sanstha, Paniv. At the time of its inception, the college admitted only 31 students to B.Sc. Part I, against a sanctioned intake capacity of 120.
The college is affiliated with Shreemati Nathibai Damodar Thackersey (SNDT) Women’s University, Mumbai, an institution dedicated exclusively to women’s education.
Over the years, the student strength increased with the introduction of B.Sc. Part II and Part III. Chemistry was offered as the principal subject, with Botany and Zoology as subsidiary subjects. In response to the growing demand for higher education among women, the institution expanded its academic programmes by introducing an M.Sc. programme in Analytical Chemistry. Furthermore, from the academic year 2025–26, the college has expanded its undergraduate programmes by introducing Microbiology as a principal subject.
At present, the undergraduate student strength is 300. To ensure academic excellence, the college provides well-equipped laboratories and ICT-enabled classrooms. The university-approved syllabus is systematically implemented in accordance with a well-planned academic calendar and daily timetable. Regular departmental meetings are conducted to monitor syllabus completion and review academic and departmental activities.
Faculty members employ both traditional and ICT-enabled teaching methods to create an engaging and student-centred learning environment. Students are provided with practical exposure through field visits, study tours, and industrial visits. Active learning is promoted through seminars, group discussions, and other participatory activities. Guest lectures by subject experts and professionals are also regularly organised to broaden students’ knowledge and perspectives.
To remain abreast of recent developments in their respective disciplines, faculty members actively participate in conferences, seminars, workshops, and Faculty Development Programmes (FDPs). The institution supports such professional development activities by providing financial assistance towards registration fees, daily allowances, and travel allowances, wherever applicable.
The college also focuses on the holistic development of students through various capacity-building and extracurricular activities.
The National Service Scheme (NSS), Sports Committee, and Cultural Committee provide students with opportunities to develop leadership, teamwork, social responsibility, and other essential life skills. Students are also encouraged to participate in competitions and events organised by other institutions.
Student assessment is carried out in accordance with the university’s semester examination pattern and is supplemented by continuous internal evaluation. The college has consistently achieved excellent results in university examinations. To enhance students’ employability and practical skills, two short-term, skill-based add-on certificate courses, carrying two credits each, have been introduced during the current academic year.
Both teaching and non-teaching staff play a supportive and protective role in ensuring the safety, well-being, and overall development of students. The institution strives to provide a secure, nurturing, and academically enriching environment, thereby earning the trust and confidence of parents regarding the quality and safety of their daughters’ education.
